Repeat Police Impersonator Is Terrorizing Florida, Own Helmet Cam Shows His Crimes
A s е х offender in Orlando was booked into the Orange County Jail on Wednesday, accused of impersonating a police officer at least three times in less than a month by directing traffic while wearing a uniform - and a gun belt - in vehicles equipped with flashing lights.
Footage from Jeremy Dewitte’s body worn camera released by the Sheriff’s Office showed him weaving through traffic at high speeds, crossing into oncoming lanes on two-lane roads, repeatedly stopping in intersections to direct traffic and shouting and cursing at motorists.
In one clip, he’s shown pulling up alongside a motorist in Osceola County - whom he described as a “dumb white b**** in a blue car” and ordering her to pull over while a siren blares.
When another driver asks him what he’s doing, Dewite responds with a tirade.
Dewitte, 39, faces charges of impersonating an officer, interception of oral communications, resisting without violence and unlawful use of a two-way communication device, all stemming from his work with the Metro-State Vehicle Protection Unit, a private security service.
Dewitte’s first recent arrest came Sept. 7, when a Windermere police officer saw a funeral procession being conducted at Maguire Road and Park Avenue.
The second incident happened the afternoon of Sept. 16, according to court records. An off-duty Orange deputy sheriff said he was driving with his wife and child when he saw what appeared to be a police motorcycle holding up traffic at Minnesota and Orlando avenues.
The third incident allegedly came Sept. 26, when a woman told investigators she was stopped at Princeton Street and Mills Avenue when she heard sirens approaching from behind her and saw a white-and-black marked motorcycle approaching, according to another affidavit.
Dewitte entered the intersection and began directing traffic, ordering the woman to move in order to let other vehicles enter the intersection. At first she thought Dewitte was police, but became suspicious after noticing that the motorcade vehicles were marked “Metro State.” She called 911 to report the activity.
