Luxury watch collectors ring in the new year with host Tim Mosso and “Wake Up With Watches!” Today’s collection of top luxury watch brands includes mainstays from Rolex, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, Breguet, IWC, Grand Seiko, and many more. Both sports watches and dress watches feature prominently, and Tim has selected a few “all-around” options for good measure.

The Rolex watch contingent features one example of each leg of the Rolex triad: Submariner, Daytona, and GMT-Master II. This example of the Rolex Submariner is a 3.9-million series Submariner 1680 on a later 93150 Oyster bracelet; condition of the case and dial are outstanding. Our Rolex Daytona is an uncommon white gold variant on an alligator leather strap with a slate sunburst metallic dial. Finally, we look to the recent past courtesy of a GMT-Master II “all-black” with a monotone black Cerachrom ceramic bezel.

Patek Philippe joins our new year’s celebration with the 2019 Patek Philippe Aquanaut in olive green. This white gold Aquanaut 42.2mm is a standout with subdued tones and extravagant finish. The perpetual calendar model 5496P – with applique rose gold retrograde date numerals – proves that Patek’s once-austere 5496P can show warmth. The vintage Patek Philippe 3940J “First Series” (also, “series I”) showcases the early dial, case, and caseback features of the original 1986 iteration of Patek Philippe’s long-running 3940 perpetual calendar.

The 2019 model year is well represented by several standouts. Audemars Piguet’s Royal Oak Offshore Chronograph with Frederic Piguet 1185 is a harbinger of new style concepts to follow on the mainstream Offshore Chronograph. Ressence sheds thickness with the newly ETA 2892-powered Type 1 Slim. Glashutte Original continues its series of Vintage Sixties degrade dials with explosive stamped patterns, galvanized metallic tones, and glossy lacquered top-coats.

Finally, Vacheron Constantin and Breguet watches impress with quality rarely seen even from more heralded brands Patek and Lange. The Vacheron Constantin Toledo 1952 is a sensational tribute to 1950s Vacheron “Ciccolatone” complete calendar watches, and the American 1921 in platinum demonstrates the aesthetic range of Vacheron’s design icon. Finally, Breguet’s Classique 3337BA recalls Abraham Louis Breguet’s finest work with its guilloche gold dial while highlighting the capability of today’s Breguet manufacture courtesy of a hand-engraved automatic caliber 502 movement.
