RUIN BARS in Budapest You Won’t Believe Exist | Instant Budapest
Description
This 3 minute instant Budapest video will show you one of the most unbelievable places you have to visit in Budapest.
Budapest ruin bars or Budapest ruin pubs can be found in formerly abandoned buildings in Budapest’s Seventh District, more precisely in its Jewish Quarter. They are considered to be the best bars in Budapest and a must see place to visit.
The story of ruin bars started in 2004 when a run down building was saved from demolition by a group of young entrepreneurs looking to open up a bar and community space. Instead of renovating the building they decided to use existing crumbling building. They cleaned up the place, did only necessary fix ups and added vintage, quirky furniture and decorations. The idea was to offer drinks at affordable prices to attract young and creative crowd. This is how legendary ruin bar Szimpla Kert was born and it became a huge success.
The concept was soon copied by others and many other decaying buildings were saved from demolition. Abandoned, crumbling houses in the Jewish Quarter soon became the most popular night life spaces in Budapest. After a huge success of ruin bars the basic idea of drinks at affordable prices is fading away. But they are still very popular, great and unique places that offer unforgettable experience.
