Description
Hi I'm Rena I'm a 4A student in AFM. Hi I'm Shiraz I'm a 4b student in AFM. And today we're gonna answer your top 10 questions about co-op. So I guess to start off, how likely I might get a co-op job? Very likely! The school has a 99.6% co-op employment rate, however you should be applying for as many jobs as possible once you're in the co-op process. How can I network with employers? The School of accounting finance has a lot of opportunities for you, they host a conference that you can network with these employers or the Center for career action also has a bunch of employer networking sessions on and off campus. How many co-op terms do I need to do? You need to do four co-op terms for the AFM program. What places would I be working at in my co-op terms? A lot of different opportunities with smaller firms and larger firms, you can work in professional services and you know the big banks, some startups, the government even. Honestly the world is your oyster. Do my co-op jobs count towards my CPA requirements? So you're eligible for up to 16 months of CPA required hours which can really help you launch a career before you even graduate. How much will I get paid? Well you get paid between 12,000 to 13,500 on average per co-op term and this can vary depending on where you work and can also increase if you work at the same employer subsequent co-op terms. A lot of money. Yeah. Do you have to apply to co-op separately? No, so AFM is a co-op only program once you're accepted into the program you are in the co-op program. Can I only do co-op in Canada so no to that as well. While Shiraz and I have only worked in Canada I do have a couple of friends who have worked overseas, for example one of my friends did her placement in Hong Kong. Lastly why is co-op useful? I think co-op is really useful in terms of building a professional network and seizing so many different opportunities to try different things in accounting and finance and personally I also received a full-time offer for once I graduate and I think it's super useful in my opinion. Yeah and even before you graduate you get to supplement your academic learning with your career or work placement and I feel like that's where a lot of your personal development happens because you can supplement this together. So I guess that's it for questions thanks for watching. Thanks and good luck.
