Scams accounted for 27% of overall crime in Singapore in 2019

For the second year running, scams are pulling up Singapore's crime rate. The police said around one in four crimes in 2019 were scam-related. In fact, the number increased by more than 50% over the previous year. Social media scams were one of the top 10 scams in Singapore, making up 8.9% of total scams in 2019. The police also said that the top three -- e-commerce scams, loan scams and credit-for-sex scams -- which make up 54% of the top 10 scams, remain a key concern.
