Description

The Silverstone Fara R1 mesh case is, in some ways, a cheaper successor to the Silverstone RL06 -- but with fewer fans. We're reviewing and benchmarking the new R1 case today.

Silverstone's Fara R1 case was described to us at CES of 2020 as being a "spiritual successor" to the RL06, although potentially not a literal successor. The case is intended to be $60-$65 (at time of writing, it's only available for $70) and is meant to tackle the largely unrepresented budget market. With only a single rear fan, though, there is an obvious immediate increase to cost for any buyers. This case needs more fans. Once they're added, it's competitive overall. Our standardized fan test thermal chart helps to illustrate this in benchmarking. The case's build quality is overall excellent for a mid-tower at this price, but it still slips behind the RL06 in several ways. Watch our review of the Silverstone Fara R1 to learn why. Direct competitors will eventually include the Phanteks P300A, but currently includes the Cooler Master NR600.
