Spread of COVID-19 stabilized with more recoveries than new cases: Seoul
Description
110명 신규확진에 177명 격리해제... 정부 "국외유입 위험하지만 국내확산세는 진정"
For the first time since the outbreak, more COVID-19 recoveries than new infections are reported here in the nation.
Still, health officials aren't taking any chances and urged vigilance after new clusters of infections emerged at a call center in a crowded part of Seoul.
Oh Junghee has the updates.
For the first time since the outbreak began in South Korea, the number of recoveries outweighs the number of newly confirmed cases.
As of 12AM Friday, South Korea saw a rise of 1-hundred-10 coronavirus cases compared to the day before, while almost 1-hundred-80 people left quarantine.
"The accumulated total of isolated patients has decreased. But because we've seen a spike in Daegu city and Gyeongsangbuk-do Province about 10 days ago, we expect more people to be out of quarantine in two to three weeks from now."
Health authorities see that the spread of COVID-19 in the country has now stabilized to some extent.
But the country is still wary because the virus is spreading rapidly across the globe and cluster infections continue within South Korea.
The number of confirmed cases in the nation stands at 7-thousand 9-hundred-79.
Over 7-thousand are in the hardest-hit city of Daegu and the surrounding Gyeongsangbuk-do Province.
17 new patients were found in the country's central city of Sejong, where the virus is spreading among workers at a government complex.
The capital Seoul saw 13 new patients, all linked to the cluster infection at a call center in Guro-gu District.
"We are continuously seeing new infections among ordinary citizens. Transmissions are happening at workplaces, churches, computer cafes and medical institutions in metropolitan areas like Seoul, Gyeonggi-do Province, and Incheon city. We need to strengthen our prevention efforts at facilities of this nature."
Meanwhile, 4 patients in Daegu City and Gyeongsangbuk-do province died on Friday.
All had underlying diseases like high blood pressure... and were being isolated.
The death toll in South Korea stands at 72.
