Sweet Baby J - Sweet Baby J (Rare 1998 US indie rock/alt rock demo)

This one appears to have come from the archives of WTJU in Charlottesville, and was found on clearance at an antique mall booth. I've been unable to find anything about this band at all aside from the snippets given inside. Unusual release, neither a UPC for sale nor contact information given for the band, though the name of the station is written in the top right corner, so I assume they gave this to the station in person. If you've been searching for a song played on local Charlottesville radio one day in late 1998, maybe this is your lucky day.

Overall, this demo feels like a half finished enigma. Track 1, "Follow Me," is quite good, and Track 8 is a hard rock instrumental jam that comes out of nowhere and is pretty rockin, but most of the other songs, in my opinion, sound like slight variations on the formula of Follow Me--especially Dream Machine--but without the same level of polish. Following this dichotomy, the front cover and silkscreened CD label are surprisingly high quality graphics design and printing quality, while the back cover is barely readable and appears to have been made in MS Paint in two minutes (and is printed on standard printer paper). It feels like at some point the project was put on rush mode and suffered because of it--the fact the liner notes list two different recording studios hints at an abnormal and troubled production process--but the demo, even in its current state, has its moments.
