One and done.

One year after winning its first TBT title, Carmen’s Crew couldn’t hold off a feisty House of Paign squad, which made its final six field goals and eliminated the defending champions, 76-68.

Mike Daum led all scorers with 23 points on 8-for-10 shooting and pulled down eight rebounds to lead House of Paign.

Daum credited his team’s composure down the stretch in a game that featured five ties and 10 lead changes.

“I was just focused on one possession at a time,” said Daum. “Each possession is so important for us. I thought our guys did such a good job of being present and being in the moment. We were so focused on what we needed to do to finish the game. Our guys did such a great job at doing what we needed to do to finish it.”

House of Paign coach Mike Latulip credited his team’s mental toughness.

“These guys stuck with it,” said Latulip. “Whether we were up or down. It just speaks to their character.”

David Lighty led the way with 21 points in the losing effort for Carmen’s Crew, which squandered a nine-point lead in the second half.

Carmen’s Crew guard Aaron Craft reflected on the first-round exit.

“Give [House of Paign] a ton of credit,” said Craft, whose seven rebounds and five assists were both team highs. “They played great. They stayed with it. That’s a great team.”

Carmen’s Crew guard Jon Diebler (11 points) expects to make another run in 2021.

“I’m sure we’re all planning on playing again,” said Diebler. “We love playing in TBT. We love playing on the same team together.”

House of Paign advances to face Red Scare on July 10th at 4:00 PM EST.
