Teacher, You Are A Hero (Jurong Primary School)

A Message From The Composers:

‘Teacher, You Are A Hero’ was written in appreciation of all our teachers, for their hard work and effort when the schools closed and switched to Full Home-Based Learning. It was a whole new experience for the students all across Singapore! Overnight, teachers had to manage family and work; learn new skills such as hosting web meetings and creating SLS lessons. We wanted to share on how our teachers brought magic into the virtual classrooms as we journeyed through this tough time. Teachers will always be there to guide us, even when we didn’t get to see them physically. We really felt loved and cared for.

We first wrote the lyrics of this song on a piece of paper and sang it to our teacher. We didn’t know that we could use GarageBand until our music teacher first introduced it to us. We would like the audience to focus on the meaning of our lyrics. The rap section is our favourite because it’s really what our teachers said on zoom, including the part about having ice-cream during breakfast!

(This song was composed and performed by JPS Primary 3 students, Haniyah, Hayley, Iris, Jerbel and Tzeng Yiao for the SYF Youth Station Project 2021. It came in Top 5 in the Primary Category. This music video was done in collaboration with our JPS Digital Media Club CCA students, Alecia, Douglas, Dhia and Kristin.)
