Description

A video tutorial that takes you through some advanced ideas around teaching online. Includes ideas around pre-recording lectures, assessing students, feedback and much more. This video is packed with ideas.

Many teacher are currently teaching online. You might be looking for ways to take your lessons to another level. This video focuses on one great technology that we can use to take our online teaching to another level. I suggest some really concrete ways of delivering online learning and getting your students more engaged in the process.

One of the first tips I give you is how you can use screen capture technology to record your mini lessons and tips. So for example you can record yourself talking over a PowerPoint slide and then share this with your students or talk over an image, a table, a graph etc. This is great if you want to share learning content with your students that they can access online.

You can use the same technology to give your students feedback. This idea is really useful and very powerful and has been widely researched. I have used this as a technique to give feedback to my students for many years and it is very effective. You will see some specific ideas around providing feedback to students in an online context.

This technology can also be used to get your students to record themselves speaking. I have used screen capture extensively for this purpose. We can get our students to record themselves speaking over a PowerPoint slide or over a picture and then they can share the videos with their teacher. Screen cast o matic is a free tool and it is ideal for this. This can be used for assessment purposes because students can show evidence of their learning, Students don't have to work alone. They can be working in pairs or small groups and record presentations, talk over pictures, talk over graphs etc. This is a great idea and it makes the learning much more teacher centred.
