Are we losing our religion?

While about seven in 10 Americans identify with some branch of Christianity, the share of Americans who claim to be Christians dropped by nearly 8 percent between in the last ten years.

But while Americans are going to church less – those who are religious are even more devout than ever,

So less people care about religion in America, but the really religious people are doubling down on their faith.

10. North Carolina

Here in the Tar Heel State, 65 percent of adults are highly religious. While 39 percent go to church at least once a week, nearly three-quarters say they believe in God with absolute certainty. Of North Carolina adults, 77 percent are Christian, 20 percent are unaffiliated with any religion and about 3 percent are of non-Christian faiths, the largest share being Jewish.

9. Oklahoma

Time to take this religious ride to our next most religious state in the USA, Oklahoma, where 66% of the population is highly religious. Here in Oklahoma, two-thirds of the population prays each day, and 71% say they believe in God.

8. Georgia

Two-thirds of Georgia adults are highly religious, because 74 percent of adults say they believe in God, and 64 percent say religion is very important in their lives. Of Georgia adults of faith, 79 percent are Christians, 18 percent are religious, but are non-Christians, and about 3 percent practice non-Christian faiths.

7. West Virginia

About 69 percent of West Virginia adults are considered highly religious. Just about half the population here attends worship services at least weekly, 77 percent of adults say they believe in God, and 68 percent pray daily.

6. South Carolina

70 percent of South Carolina adults are highly religious because 69 percent say religion is very important in their lives and two-thirds say they pray daily. Of South Carolina adults, 78 percent are Christian, and 19 percent go to church, but do not claim any one religion.

5. Arkansas

Here in the Natural State, 71% of adults are categorized as highly religious. That’s because 77 percent of adults say they believe in God and 70 percent say religion is very important in their lives.

4. Louisiana

We’re here in Louisiana, our 4th most religious state. About 72 percent of Louisiana adults are considered highly religious. That’s because 75 percent say they believe in God, and 68 percent pray daily. Of Louisiana adults, 84 percent are Christian, 13 percent are unaffiliated with any religion and about 2 percent are non-Christian faiths, the largest share being Buddhist at about 1 percent.

3. Tennessee

Here in Tennessee, 73 percent of all adults are highly religious. 78% say they believe in God with absolute certainty, while 51 percent attend weekly worship services. Most Tennessee religious folks are Christians.

2 Alabama

We’re in Alabama, where going to church is definitely a thing people do quite often.

Now, we’re taking a big jump up from Tennessee here. Here in Alabama, 77% of the population is highly religious. A whopping 82 percent of adults say they believe in God, and 3 in 4 people pray daily. Alabama has the biggest population of Christians per capita, where 86 percent are Christian, and only 12 percent are unaffiliated with any religion.

1 Mississippi.

In Mississippi, 79% of adults are classified as highly religious. 3 in 4 say God exists, and 3 in 4 people here prays daily. Of all religions, 83 percent are Christians, and 14 practice religion, but do not have a particular religion they commit to.
