Description

Paul McCartney’s English teacher Alan Durband didn’t discourage his pupil’s ‘obsession’ with music but did urge him to continue with his studies.

‘He wouldn’t have had an Aston Martin if he’d been a schoolteacher, I can assure you’ Durband admitted in this interview with the ABC in Perth, during the height of Beatlemania.

A revered figure in British education, Alan Durband has a classroom named after him at the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts. LIPA was co-founded and partly financed by McCartney and occupies the grounds of the Beatle’s alma mater.

This interview was conducted by Bob Sanders in 1965, the exact date of transmission is unknown.
