Description

Although pop singer-songwriter and producer #CharliePuth admits himself that he was late on the “Outkast train,” the fact that he almost crashed when he first heard their song “ATLiens” on the radio makes up for it. Citing everything from that life threatening hip-hop moment to the pop rock sweetness of Natalie Imbruglia’s cover of “Torn,” Puth lists his top five “stickiest hooks” in The FADER’s latest episode of Top Five. Being the perfect pitch prodigy that he is, Puth appropriately plays the tunes by memory on a lap-sized piano in the segment and gets technical when referring to tracks like his number one pick, “Who Am I (What’s My Name)” by Snoop Dogg featuring Dr. Dre. “I love that Dre would always put the crash symbol at the beginning of every fourth bar,” geeks Puth about the former N.W.A. member’s production style. For a musical element more casual music listeners can cling onto though, Puth sheepishly sings, “Snoop Doggy, Dogg.” To hear the full story about how he almost crashed his car listening to Outkast and the rest of his favorite hooks, watch the rest of the segment above.
