The 'Real' MiG Alley- Albania Air Base (Where Top Gear filmed)

Some old footage from Kucova AB, Berat, Albania.
This is filmed during an official inspection by AF Command, 2 years after the last flight took place.
Kucova Air Base was built between 1951-1955 with the help of Soviet engineers. In May 15 1955 the 23 Fighter-Bomber Regiment was inaugurated and begun operations with a fully equiped squadron of MiG-15bis. A few of them were Korean War veterans with visible signs of dogfights (patched holes from 0,50 cal guns). A few years later the Regiment received MiG-17Fs and then the MiG-19S (Shenyang F-6). Inside the base also operated the URA (Uzina Riparimit te Avioneve= Aircraft Maintenance Plant).
