The Top 10 Knots You Need to Know: Taut-Line Hitch

The Taut-Line Hitch creates an adjustable line that won’t slip under load. It’s perfect for securing cargo or making adjustable lines for your tent stakes.

To tie the Taut-Line Hitch, pass the working end of your line around an object and bring it over the standing part of your line. Pass the working end through the loop that’s created.

Now wrap the working end twice around the standing part inside the loop. Pass the working end around the back of the standing part outside the loop and bring it back through the loop that’s created.

From here you can tighten the knot and to adjust tension, simply move the wraps along the standing part.
