These Animals Cause Serious Damage
Predators are predators, all of them hunt, all of them kill, and all of them can do a lot of bodily damage.
Some, though, do more damage than others and we will talk about them in today’s video.
From a crocodilian known tear out limbs to a voracious eater known for its feeding frenzies, here are
some animals that cause serious damage.

Number 10. The Black Caiman
Being one of the biggest member of the crocodilians, black caimans can cause serious bodily harm, not
only to their usual prey, but also to humans. The massive predator lives in the lakes, slow-flowing rivers,
and seasonally flooded savannas of the Amazon basin and is often regarded as the biggest predator of
the Amazon ecosystem and feeds on a variety of birds, reptiles, fish, and mammals. If the prey is too big
to swallow whole, they simply tear our bite sized pieces of flesh and bone. In fact, it’s not uncommon for
people to see one of these creatures lugging around a torn leg of some animal.
This powerful creature can take on any animal that unknowingly ventures into its territory, and that also
includes humans. Between January 2008 and October 2013, black caimans attacked 43 people but
fortunately, less than one-fifth of these attacks were fatal.
Encounters with these vicious predators are becoming more and more frequent as humans are
constantly and aggressively encroaching into their territories, so the number of attacks are expected
only to rise, or otherwise, the population of these animals start to dwindle.

Number 9. The Leopard Seal
Primarily known for its beautifully spotted coat, the leopard seal is also famous for its fierce nature.
Among the largest of all seals, they are right on top of the Antarctic food chain. Measuring up to 13 feet
in length and weighing in at up to 1,320 pounds, it is a large and imposing predator, these surprisingly
fast animals come armed with a huge mouth lined with big, pointy teeth set in a head that looks more
reptile than seal.
They regularly prey on other species of seal, seabirds, penguins and fish, although they are also known
to sieve krill and small crustaceans out of the water too. These ambush predators lie just below the ice
shelf where seals or penguins are entering the water at which point they pounce.
Given that this seal is only found in the frigid waters of the far southern oceans, it rarely encounters
humans. This makes it all the more shocking that a leopard seals have killed people.
In 2003 a British scientist was less fortunate. Kirsty Brown, a 28-year-old marine biologist working with
the British Antarctic Survey, was snorkeling off the Antarctic Peninsula when she was attacked by a large
leopard seal. The seal dragged the scientist deep underwater where she drowned.

Number 8. The Jaguar

This Amazonian big cat, the third largest big cat in the world, is well adapted to kill. Its diet is wide and
varied and includes at least 87 species which fortunately don’t include humans. It is more than a match
for any animal in South and Central America and exhibits a preference for large prey. Adult caimans,
capybaras, tapirs, zorros, peccaries, and deer are all potential prey for them.
They have insanely strong bites which they use to clamp onto the throats of their victims, their favored
way of dispatching prey. Another technique unique to the jaguar is biting directly through the temporal
bones of the skull and piercing the brain. They reserve these techniques for the bigger prey though, as
one mighty swipe from their clawed paws is usually enough for smaller prey items.
One can understand how vulnerable and helpless a human would be in front of this powerful predator.
The only thing humans can hope for is to not encounter these vicious predators out in the wild, but even
that is fleeting. Since the Amazon forests are getting depleted at a rapid rate, chances of human-jaguar
encounters are also increasing.

Number 7. The Great White Shark
The legendary great white as it is commonly known is one of the fiercest ocean predators. So fierce, in
fact, that it has earned its reputation as a “man-eater” so no question how much damage it can do to a
human body there.
The great white has a very extended habitat area, and inhabits both temperate as well as tropical
coastal waters. It commonly dwells in the coast of North America, from Newfoundland to southern
Mexico. It also inhabits the waters of South Africa.
