Singapore is no longer the preferred destination for expats. According to the annual survey "HBSC Expat", the Asian city was dethroned by Switzerland in 2019. The country is particularly popular for its quality of life and its political and economic stability, but it also ranks first in terms of income, with wages well above the world average. Singapore retains its valuable assets, starting with its school system considered excellent.

France is only in 17th place. Its cultural heritage particularly appeals to expatriates, few of whom settle in France in order to earn a better living. For those under 35, overall career opportunities play a decisive role in going to work abroad. Moving abroad would allow these young workers to increase their wages by 35% on average compared to their country of origin.

The HSBC bank ranking is based on the survey carried out among 18,059 expatriates around the world, in March and April 2019, by the YouGov polling institute. Only countries with at least 100 respondents are included in the final study, making a total of 33 states.
