Top 10 Country GDP (PPP) History (1-2018) | 12,000 Years of World Economy

This video visualizes the 12,000 years of world economy history in 8 minutes. The video shows the estimated gross world product (GWP) from 10,000 BC - 1 AD, the "guesstimated" GDP PPP from 1 - 1700 AD, and the estimated GDP PPP from 1800 onward. Projection by World Bank is not shown due to the interference of trade wars. From first century onward, the ranking of Top 10 countries with highest GDP PPP is shown in 2019 US dollars. While giving a trend of the world economy, the video also shows the interactions between the advancement in technology and the development of economy.


Scope & Limitations

• Reflects the relative change in economy of top 10 nations; and
• Showcases the interaction between technology and economy.
Limitations ( i.e. the cons)
• Missing years are interpolated;
• Inconsistencies between sources; and
• Extreme events usually not well documented.
