Dinosaurs were a diverse group of reptiles that roamed the Earth along time ago. There are no more dinosaurs alive today but we learned all about them from the fossils they left behind. So let’s look at the top 10 facts about dinosaurs.

Number 10. Humans have only been on Earth about 2.5 million years while dinosaurs lived on Earth for about 160 million years, which is about 64 times longer.

Number 9. Dinosaurs lived on all the continents, including Antarctica. Dinosaur fossils actually have been found on all seven continents.

Number 8. The word dinosaur comes from the Greek language and means ‘terrible lizard’. This term refers to their impressive size rather than their scary appearance.

Number 7. A person who studies dinosaurs is known as a paleontologist. That must be an exciting job to have!

Number 6. Pterodactyls are not dinosaurs, they were flying reptiles that lived during the age of dinosaurs but by definition they do not fall into the same category.

Number 5. Most dinosaurs hatch from eggs, and they could not fly or live in water.

Number 4. All Dinosaurs Were Vertebrates. Large or small, dinosaurs were all backboned animals that shared similar skeletal features.
