Right, this is going to be a subjective list but hear me out! If you're starting up a board game collection and you're thinking "what games should I begin with" - I feel that these 10 will be a solid mix of light/medium-light games that will encompass a wide variety of genres and allow for a range of player counts.

Of course, I'm sure many will disagree and try to put stuff like Terraforming Mars or Food Chain Magnate or Gloomhaven in the list. Whether you like them or not, in no way are they essential games when considering newcomers, they're just your personal favourites.

So let's dive in and see what I consider to be "the" essential games.
