These plants purify our homes, and fight against these toxins:
1. Benzene is a colorless liquid with a sweet odor. It evaporates into the air very quickly and dissolves slightly in water.
Products Containing Benzene
*Paint, lacquer, and varnish removers.
*Industrial solvents.
*Gasoline and other fuels.
*Glues.
*Paints.
*Furniture wax.
*Detergents.
*Thinners.
2. Formaldehyde is a naturally occurring organic compound with the formula CH₂O. It is the simplest of the aldehydes.
Formaldehyde is found in manufactured wood products used as building materials such as OSB, plywood, MDF, and particle board. These manufactured wood products are also found in furniture like desks, bookshelves, beds, kitchen cabinets, and more.
3. Trichloroethylene, also known as TCE, is a colorless, volatile liquid that is produced in large volumes for commercial use. It is primarily used in two ways — to make hydrofluorocarbon chemicals, especially refrigerants, and as a solvent to remove grease from metal parts, although this use is declining.
TCE is also used in some household products, such as cleaning wipes, aerosol cleaning products, tool cleaners, paint removers, spray adhesives, and carpet cleaners and spot removers. Commercial dry cleaners also use trichloroethylene as a spot remover.
4. Xylene, xylol or dimethylbenzene is any one of three isomers of dimethylbenzene, or a combination thereof.
Chemical industries produce xylene from petroleum. Xylene also occurs naturally in petroleum and coal tar and is formed during forest fires, to a small extent. It is a colorless, flammable liquid with a sweet odor.
5. Toluene, also known as toluol, is an aromatic hydrocarbon. It is a colorless, water-insoluble liquid with the smell associated with paint thinners.
Toluene is found naturally in crude oil, and is used in oil refining and the manufacturing of paints, lacquers, explosives (TNT) and glues. In homes, toluene may be found in paint thinners, paintbrush cleaners, nail polish, glues, inks and stain removers.
6. Carbon dioxide is a chemical compound composed of one carbon and two oxygen atoms. It is often referred to by its formula CO2. It is present in the Earth's atmosphere at a low concentration and acts as a greenhouse gas.
Carbon dioxide is used to carbonate sodas, as an alternative to water in fire extinguishers, solid carbon dioxide is used to cool large (industrial size) refrigeration systems, cement production, deforestation as well as the burning of fossil fuels like coal/oil/natural gas (with CO2 emissions as a byproduct).
7. Ammonia is a compound of nitrogen and hydrogen with the formula NH₃.
It is an excellent cleanser in liquid form and is found in many household cleaning products. Window cleaners, floor polishing waxes, furniture polish, drain cleaners, toilet cleansers, bathroom cleaners, multi-surface cleaners, glass cleaners, oven cleansers and stainless-steel cleaners all contain ammonia.
