Hello Displorers, Welcome back to another informative video and thanks for watching. In this video, we are exciting to present to you the Top 10 Most Densely Populated Countries in Africa in 2020. Africa is the second largest and second most populated Continent after Asia with over 1.2 billion inhabitants scarttered amongst its 54 sovereign countries. Though there are so many people on the continent, there population are not evenly distributed. These are some African countries with High population density while there are other with extremely low population density. The population density of a county is determined by dividing the total population of that country by its area of land. The largest country in Africa by surface area is Algeria while Nigeria is the most populous African Country.
The continent has an average population density of 94 persons per square mile. However, the population density ranges across the 54 countries within the continent.

10. Malawi – Population Density – 145.3/km2

The Republic of Malawi is a landlocked country in southeast Africa that was formerly known as Nyasaland. It is bordered by Zambia to the northwest, Tanzania to the northeast, and Mozambique on the east, south, and west. Uganda covers a total area of 118.484 km2 and a population of 18,1 million people making it the 10th Most densely populated country in Africa with a population Density 145.3/km2. Malawi has a low urban population at only 16.45% with just three cities.


9. Uganda – Population Density – 165.4/km2

The Republic of Uganda is a landlocked country in East-Central Africa. It is bordered to the east by Kenya, to the north by South Sudan, to the west by the Democratic Republic of the Congo, to the south-west by Rwanda, and to the south by Tanzania. Uganda covers a total area of about 241,038 km2 and a population of 42,729,036 people pushing it to the Ninth-highest population density in Africa of 165.4 people per km2. While 84% of residents live in rural areas instead of the developing urban areas, the major cities still boast a large number of inhabitants.


8. Gambia – population Desnsity – 176.1/km2

The Republic of Gambia is a country in West Africa that is almost entirely surrounded by Senegal with the exception of its western coastline along the Atlantic Ocean. It is the smallest country in mainland Africa. Gambia is situated on both sides of the lower reaches of the Gambia River, the nation's namesake, which flows through the center of The Gambia and empties into the Atlantic Ocean. It covers a total area of 10.684km2 and a population of 2.2 million people making it the eighth most densely populated country in Africa with a population Density of 176.1/km2. 59.4 % of the population is urban with the largest city Serekunda carrying a population of 350,000 people.

7. São Tomé and Príncipe – Population Density – 199.7/km2
The Democratic Republic of São Tomé and Príncipe, is an island country in the Gulf of Guinea, off the western equatorial coast of Central Africa. It consists of two archipelagos around the two main islands of São Tomé and Príncipe. São Tomé and Príncipe cover a total area of 1001 km2 and a population of 211,194 people making it the seventh most densely populated country in Africa with a population desnsity of about 199.7 km2. 74.0 % of the population is urban and the most populated city in Sao Tome with an estimated population of 58,000.

6. Nigeria – Population Density – 215/km2

Officially the Federal Republic of Nigeria, is a country in West Africa, bordering Niger in the north, Chad in the northeast, Cameroon in the east, and Benin in the west. Its coast in the south is located on the Gulf of Guinea in the Atlantic Ocean. Nigeria covers a total area 923,768 km2 and a population of 203,651,933 people making it the sixth-highest population density in Africa of 215 persons per km2. Approximately 50% of Nigerians are urban dwellers, with the rate of urbanization being estimated at 4.3%
