There are lots of very nasty monsters in Dungeons & Dragons that will ruin player characters' days. In fact, some creatures are just downright deadly compared with what their challenge rating would seem to indicate. These are the sorts of monsters that dungeon masters should exercise care with when building encounters for their D&D games because a DM's goal is to challenge their Dungeons and Dragons players, not outright destroy them.
