10: Dominque Wilkins (1982 – 1999 Atlanta Hawks, Los Angeles Clippers, Boston Celtics, San Antonio Spurs, Orlando Magic)
Wilkins averaged 17.5 points per game as a rookie and was a member of the All-Rookie Team. He then went on a run of 13 consecutive seasons averaging at least 20 points per game. He led the league in scoring in 1985-1986 with the Hawks when he averaged 30.3 points per game. Wilkins again surpassed the 30 point per game plateau in 1987-1988 when he averaged 30.7 per contest.
9: James Worthy (1982 –1994 Los Angeles Lakers)
Worthy was a key member of the dominant Lakers teams of the 1980s. While generally not the first scoring option with Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Magic Johnson on the court, Worth was steady and reliable. He was a member of the All-Rookie team, averaging 13.4 points per game.
8: Rick Barry (1966 – 1980 San Francisco Warriors, Oakland Oars, Washington Capitols, New York Nets, Golden State Warriors, Houston Rockets)
Barry was NBA Rookie of the Year in 1965-1966 after averaging 25.7 points per game. He dominated offensively the follow season, leading the league in scoring at 35.6 per contest. It was the first of four seasons that Barry averaged at least 30 points per game. A 12-time All-Star, Barry was All ABA Team four times and All NBA Team six times.
7: Scottie Pippen (1988 – 2004 Chicago Bulls, Houston Rockets, Portland Trailblazers)
As the number two in the one-two punch with Michael Jordan in Chicago, Scottie Pippen had an excellent all-around career. He made his first of seven All-Star teams during his third season when he averaged 16.5 points, 6.7 rebounds and 5.4 assists per game. Pippen was outstanding on the defensive end and was named ot the All-Defense Team 10 times.
6: John Havlicek (1963 – 1978 Boston Celtics)
Havlicek was a key member of the Celtics dynasty, winning eight NBA titles over a 16-year career. He was a member of the 1962-1963 All-Rookie team, averaging 14.3 points and 6.7 rebounds per game. Havlicek made is first of 13 consecutive All-Star teams in 1965-1966 and was named All-NBA 11 times.
5: Elgin Baylor (1958 – 1972 Minneapolis/Los Angeles Lakers)
Baylor made his presence felt quickly in the NBA, earning an All-Star berth and winning MVP of the All-Star Game. He also went on to win Rookie of the Year averaging 24.9 points and 15 rebounds per game. Baylor averaged at least 30 points per game in three consecutive seasons with a high of 38.3 in 1961-1962.
4: Kevin Durant (2008 – Present Seattle Supersonics, Oklahoma City Thunder, Golden State Warriors)
Durant made the All-Rookie team in 2007-2008 when he averaged 20.3 points per game. Starting in 2009-2010, Durant led the league in scoring four of the next five seasons, averaging over 30 points per game twice. He also made the All-Star team for the first time in the 2009-2010 season and has made it every year since.
3: Julius Erving (1972 – 1987 Virginia Squires, New York Nets, Philadelphia 76ers)
Julius Erving was the first to bring a high-flying game above the rim to the professional game. Starting his career in the ABA, Erving averaged a double-double each of his first five seasons, winning the scoring title three times. He averaged at least 20 points per game in each of his first 14 professional seasons.
2: Larry Bird (1980 – 1992 Boston Celtics)
Bird was one of the most complete basketball players of all-time. He could score, rebound, pass and shoot with the best. Bird was, Rookie of the Year, an All-Star in 12 of his 13 seasons, only missing out during 1988-1989 when he missed all but six games due to injury. In addition, Bird was name All-NBA 10 times and three times All-Defense team.
1: LeBron James (2004 – Present Cleveland Cavaliers, Miami Heat, Los Angeles Lakers)
James is not only the best small forward of all-time, but before it’s all said and done, could be ranked the top player in NBA history. He was Rookie of the Year and has made 16 consecutive All-Star teams and 16 times All-NBA. In addition, he’s thrived on the defensive end, earning six All-Defense team nods.
