For any copyright, please send me a message.  Wily parents are staying a step ahead of kids by hiding decoy presents to put them off the trail.  Four in 10 admit to putting dud gifts in places children are bound to look so they think they are getting something they didn’t want.  But the sneaky tactics can backfire as six in 10 actually forget where the real presents are stashed until after Christmas Day.  The hilarious antics are revealed by comic the Beano which also found gifts are squirrelled away in an average of four hidey holes from deliberately mislabelled boxes marked tax receipts or insurance to the laundry basket.  Kids aged six to 14-years-old are predictable when it comes to looking for presents when grown ups backs are turned, with under the bed, in or on top of their parents’ wardrobes and under the stairs the most popular places to search.  According to the survey of 2,000 parents and children, excited youngsters go present hunting when mums and dads are cooking dinner, glued to their favourite TV show or when they are having a weekend lie-in.  Six in 10 children reckon they know all the hiding places and although two thirds admitted they were tempted to take a sneak peek underneath the wrapping paper only one in 10 did.  Four in 10 said they preferred to take a guess by feeling the wrapped gift, a third shook it and one in 20 used the sniff test.  In a bid to outfox the kids, two thirds of parents revealed they kept presents out of the house with family, friends or the office named as the safest bets.  Mike Stirling, editorial director of Beano Studios, said “The annual hunt for presents is a huge Christmas tradition for kids.  “Finding them, squishing them and using all of their thinking power to suss out what might be inside before the final reveal on Christmas morning is all part of the fun of the holidays.  “The old, faithful hiding spots are not as secret as parents might think.
