Description

I'm Cindy Felkel. This is my first ever YouTube video! I'm the host of the Hold My Iced Coffee Podcast. In this video, my friend Jen and I talk about ten types of things people post on social media which destroy opportunities to build real connections with others.
This discussion is mostly sarcastic. We want to provide a humorous look at some of the ways we are fake on Facebook and Instagram. We want to encourage people to be value themselves enough to be real online. We laugh at our own faults and insecurities. We discuss things like posting pictures of yourself with no make-up. The problem is how cruel social media can be and we shouldn't value ourselves because of how we look. We talk about being fake about your house, your children, and the meals you cook. When we pretend to be perfect, we destroy our chances for real connections. Cindy admits to oversharing on Facebook and shares a humorous example of the embarrassing kind of thing she'd probably share. This makes people uncomfortable. Then they avoid her or "don't want to look her in the eye".
I used to call Jen my "Social Media Coordinator" for my podcast. That ended when I interviewed her (episode 6)! In our interview, she kept talking about how much she dislikes social media. We decided she should focus on helping us plan events where we can really connect with our listeners and help them build real connections with each other and us.
We all struggle with building real connections in this busy modern world. Our podcast is about helping people connect with others through sharing stories about peoples' real struggles with life and faith. We believe when people connect with God, they find their value and courage. When we connect with each other, "we hold each other's iced coffees" while we walk in that courage and value. It's an amazing way to live!
Social media can get in the way of us seeing our own value and the value of others. Use it as a starting point. Value yourself enough to be real. The world needs you and what you have to offer.
Don't hide your amazing goodness with a fake mask of perfection!
We want you to know that God absolutely ADORES you! You don't need to pretend to be anything you're not. Value yourself enough to be real. We are here to encourage you and "hold your iced coffee" while you courageously discover what that means!

Also, for my deaf audience, PLEASE let me know how to make my videos better for you. This is for my friend Abby. I never do official transcripts for her because I'd rather just text her about what I talked about. She's convinced her friends might also be interested. So, let me know you saw this because I'm a really slow transcription-ist or transcriber, or typer person... I need the encouragement!
Also, I am honored that you watched my video. I'm sorry about the subtitles being over some of the messages. I promise to do better next time! If you are super curious, here's what I covered up:
"Confession: I wanted to re-do this whole video because I had a piece of lint in my hair." (Irony). "Tell me I'm awesome" posts. "Most people aren't extreme in their political views." "Yet most of us judge others based on extremes."
Thanks for watching!
Blessings to all y'all!
