Top 10 World's Most Liveable Cities 2021: Adelaide, Auckland, Osaka, Zurich & More!
Description
WORLD'S MOST LIVEABLE CITIES
Adelaide has just been named the third most liveable city in the world, after Auckland in New Zealand and Osaka in Japan. But third isn’t bad, right? Perth, Melbourne and Brisbane also made the top ten in The Economist Intelligence Unit's latest Global Liveability Index. That is a bit of a mouthful but basically it ranked things like healthcare, education and infrastructure to give one hundred and forty cities a score out of 100.
Six out of the top ten cities were from Australia or New Zealand. According to the organisers it had a fair bit to do with containing COVID-19 and being able to lead reasonably normal lives. Down the bottom of the list was Damascus in Syria, Lagos in Nigeria, and Port Moresby in Papua New Guinea.
WILD WEATHER
Victoria has been battered by storms. They have caused floods and brought down trees and powerlines. Hundreds of properties have been damaged and the SES has had to rescue dozens of people. The same cold snap blanketed parts of New South Wales in snow. But it did not make it to Queensland.
COVID-19 NSW & QLD
Some towns in New South Wales and Queensland are on high alert for COVID-19 after some people with the virus travelled through them. A couple drove from Melbourne to the Sunshine Coast in Queensland. On the way they stopped at four towns in New South Wales and a couple in Queensland. People who might have come into contact with them, or who have any symptoms, have been told to get tested and isolate.
STATE OF ORIGIN
After a lot of excitement for the first ever Townsville opener the Maroons got absolutely smashed. The Blues took out their biggest win in Origin history. The Blues took the lead early on and, well, stayed there. The Maroons managed to put 6 points on the board. But by the end it was nowhere near enough with the Blues taking their biggest ever win 50-6.
NATHAN BUCKLEY
Collingwood great, Nathan Buckley, has left the club. He has been with the Pies since 1994 and for the past 10 seasons, he has been the coach. But after a rough 6-month period for the club, he has decided his time is up.
YOUNG SKATEBOADERS
A couple of 12-year-olds could be taking on the world’s best skateboarders at the Tokyo Olympics! Japan's, Kokona Hiraki and British superstar, Sky Brown, have now officially qualified. It is especially sweet for Sky who suffered a bad head injury while training a year ago. If she gets selected, she will be her country's youngest ever Summer Olympian!
PITCH PARACHUTIST
A skydiver in Poland had a bit of trouble with his parachute, which forced him to make an emergency landing. It just so happened to be in the middle of a soccer match! Thankfully, nobody was hurt but apparently parachuting is not in the rules and the skydiver got a yellow card, whoops.
MOUNT RECYCLEMORE
"Mount Recyclemore" looks a bit like America's Mount Rushmore. But it is in England and is made from old electronics shaped into the faces of 7 world leaders, including Joe Biden and Boris Johnson. All the leaders are heading to England for a big meeting called the G7. The artist is hoping when they see it will send them a message about recycling.
LEGO TYPEWRITER
Before computers there were typewriters. But they were not made from, Lego! Yep, Lego has gone back in time and released a typewriter. It has made up of more than 2000 pieces and it actually types, cool!
BOND CAR
Car-maker Aston Martin has made 25 replicas of 007's famous car from the 1964 film, Goldfinger. Complete with spy gadgets like a hidden telephone. It could be yours for the low low price of 4.7 million Aussie dollars.
