About this chart:
-I started making these monthly videos in November 2016 as a Top 60. I expanded to a Top 70 in October 2017 and to a Top 100 in March 2018.
-No non Korean MVs (Songs mostly in English with a few Korean parts don't count)
-1 MV per song (no second ver/dance ver unless it’s the version with the most views)
-No MVs made under other companies (i.e Dream, Stay With Me & Everyday)
-Performance Videos are only included if they’re labeled as a music video explicitly
-I’m not going to make one of these for YG, or any other company.
(Below I go more in depth for each of these points if they’re unclear/you want to know more)
-As I say at the beginning of the video, I only include korean-language MVs from the SMTown/sment channels. This means
-No Mr Taxi
-No Other Japanese releases. Japanese songs, for whatever reason, are stricter with copyright claims. Some of my older videos have gotten blocked in hundreds of countries because Everybody by Shinee was flagged as the Japanese version of the song (this is why I feature verses instead of the chorus)
-English and Chinese releases are also not included. I think it’d be weird to /just/ exclude Japanese songs, so all non-korean songs are excluded.
-Therefore mostly English songs aren't included, ie. JOPPING.
-Additionally, only One Version of an MV per song. So Growl Ver. 2 and Why Dance Ver. are not included intentionally. I wanna be able to feature as many songs as possible here, so no repeats.
-Songs by SM artists that were produced under other companies are also not included: For Example, SuzyXBaekhyun’s Dream was produced under Mystic Entertainment, so despite having an SM artist feature, I don’t count it as an SM song. This also goes for OSTs like Everytime and Stay With Me, which were also produced/released under different companies.
-Performance videos are not counted as MVs unless they are labeled as MVs. For example, I include NCT 127’s Limitless is labelled Music Video #2 (Performance Ver.), so because it’s labeled as an MV, it’s included. However, Super Junior’s Devil video with 30M views is labelled “Performance Video” so since it is not called an MV, it is not included. This many seem like a small difference, but for a video titled “Most Viewed MVss”, it makes sense to only include the videos actually labeled as MVs.
-I currently do monthly videos for SM and JYP, and I have no interest in expanding on that. I get a lot of comments about doing a YG version or other companies. While some of it comes down to me just having more love for SM and JYP, the much bigger reason is that I don’t really want to be making more than two long videos at the start of every month. These videos take a lot of time and energy, and I don’t want any more big projects at the beginning of the month to take time away from my weekly videos or longer projects I have in the works. I may at some point in the future make standalone, non-monthly most viewed MVs videos for other companies, but I will not be adding any more monthly videos of this nature to my channel.
