Top 15 E-sports Game and Game series ranked by Prize Money 1998 - 2019

Following feedback I created a new version of this ranking which groups games into their applicable series/franchise to achieve a better comparison of performance over time. (e.g. FIFA etc.) see list below for key groupings.

This racing bar chart shows the growth of prize money for the top 15 E-sports from 1998 to 2019.

Please note the US $ figure is the cumulative value of total prize money for each game or game series / franchise over that time period. Historical figures are adjusted to put them into equivalent 2019 values by using US CPI.

The data is sourced from https://www.esportsearnings.com/

It represents all data on esports games based on information published on the internet. Sources include news articles, forum posts, live report threads, interviews, official statements, reliable databases, VODs and other publicly-accessible sources that preserve "historical" information.

Note: I have adjusted the historical prize money values using US CPI at the end of each year to get more equivalent present day values.
