Top 20 Districts by Active COVID-19 Cases (May - July 2020)
Description
While most rankings tell us about the states, we focus here on the districts of India ranked by the total active cases of COVID-19. Active cases mean people still positive who are admitted to hospitals and haven't recovered.
As the total confirmed cases in India touches 1 million, it indicates a stressful situation, however, over 66% of people have also recovered - which is something to be hopeful about.
The data here is from covid19india.org - an excellent community driven website that has been collecting very granular data about the cases in India. We have visualized their data here.
April 2020: (0:00)
May 2020: (0:15)
June 2020: (1:41)
July 2020: (3:05)
By the end of April 2020, there were about 26,000 active cases in the country, the western districts of Ahmedabad and Mumbai were leading in number of cases, followed by Delhi.
By the end of May, Ahmedabad slipped down and Chennai rose up in the number of cases. Delhi was consistently above in both months.
However, in June, there seemed to be an explosive rise in numbers from Delhi as it kept exchanging spots with Mumbai for the #1 position.
Finally by July, we see a nearby district of Mumbai - Thane emerge as India's highest active cases bearing district.
