Overview
It is crucial to consider the rate of road accidents in a country that you intend to travel. Road accident is a menace that has claimed many lives. The key attributes to road accidents are mainly careless driving and poor road infrastructure. In other countries, a simple street crossing is risky. This is because the necessary support hasn’t been appropriately placed.

According to the 2008 research by the World Health Organization, car accidents take a substantial percentage of the causes of death. Auto accidents account for 1.8% of all deaths.

This article aims to highlight some of the countries with the highest number of road accidents. The results were based on the research by the World Health Organization and the University of Michigan Transportation Research Initiative.

1. Namibia


According to the World Health Organization, Namibia records the highest number of deaths resulting in 45 people per 100,000 citizens per year. The key cause of the increase in the number of road accidents in Namibia is due to the poor road infrastructure. Most drivers are unaware of the landscape and weather conditions in the area. Thus, they continue to record an increase in the number of deaths per year.

2. Thailand

With regards to the 2008 research conducted by the World Health Organization, Thailand records 44 deaths per 100,00 citizens per year brought by road accidents. The primary cause of accidents is due to the high volumes of traffic in cities. Moreover, the road infrastructure has not been well maintained.

3. Iran


The United States Department of International relations and immigration encourage tourists not to travel to Iran. They record 38 deaths out of 100,000 citizens. The drivers in Iran drive carelessly and tend to overtake through runways. The most significant number of casualties in Iran are the pedestrians. The traffic rules are not followed to the letter.

4. Sudan


Car accidents are widespread in Sudan. The key cause of the increase in many accidents is due to the poor maintenance of the road infrastructure. Roads are poorly maintained, cars are road untrustworthy, and lack of street lighting. They record 36 deaths per 100,000 individuals per year.

5. Swaziland

The primary cause of accidents in Swaziland is caused by excessive speeding reckless overtaking. Moreover, the country experiences a poor state of road maintenance such as lack of street lighting.

6. Venezuela

The country records 35 deaths per 100,000 per year. Poor road maintenance and reckless driving primarily cause this. Besides, there are high chances of carjackings.

7. Congo

The increase in many car accidents in Congo is primarily brought by poor road infrastructure and low driving standards.

8. Malawi
Highway accident

The poor state of roads poorly maintained cars, and lack of street lighting is a significant cause of the increase in car accidents in Malawi. They record 32 deaths in 100,000 citizens due to road accidents.

9. Iraq

Iraq has dangerous roads that are prone to road accidents. Their highways are poorly maintained which lead to greasy road accidents from time to time.

10. Central Africa Republic


Most drivers are unaware of the harsh road conditions in this country. They also suffer lack of lighting and poor car maintenance.
