'Top Tasks for Service Transformation' with Gerry McGovern & Ulla Devitt at This is HCD Ireland

How do you know what matters (and what doesn't) to people using your service?

Top Tasks is a research framework used to identify exactly that - what matters. In this session, we’ll explore this tried and tested method and the impact it can have on your products and services.

We’re very fortunate to have two great speakers with unique perspectives of working with Top Tasks. Our first speaker, Gerry McGovern, developed the Top Tasks framework over a 15 year period and has used it to lead prioritisation projects at companies like Microsoft, Toyota and IBM, as well as multiple governments. Our second speaker, Ulla Devitt, will share insights from a recent digital service transformation project undertaken by the HSE using the Top Tasks methodology.

SPEAKERS
Gerry McGovern
Gerry has developed Top Tasks, an information design framework that helps identify what truly matters to people, design an information architecture, and measure the ability of people to complete top tasks. It was developed over a 15-year period and has been used more than 500 times. Microsoft, Cisco, NetApp, Toyota, IBM, the European Union, US, UK, Dutch, Canadian, Norwegian, and Irish governments have used it.

A highly regarded speaker, Gerry has spoken about designing simpler digital experiences in more than 40 countries. He has written eight books. His latest is called World Wide Waste: How digital is killing the planet and what to do about it. The Irish Times has described Gerry as one of five visionaries who have had a major impact on the development of the Web. He has appeared on BBC, CNN and CNBC television, partaken in various radio shows, and featured in numerous print media publications. He is the founder of Customer Carewords, a consultancy that implements the Top Tasks framework.

Ulla Devitt
Ulla is the digital development and user experience manager of the Irish Health Service Executive (HSE) Digital team. Currently, she is working on a digital transformation project with the aim of meeting users’ needs online, supporting them to understand and navigate the health service, and to manage and improve their health and wellbeing. Ulla and her team at HSE have been working with Gerry to use Top Tasks in their work.
