Trump says he thinks Kim Jong-un is 'man of his word' on denuclearization

Despite North Korea's threat of a "new strategic weapon", the U.S. is hopeful Pyeongyang will live up to its promises to denuclearize.

U.S. President Donald Trump said on Tuesday he believes Kim Jong-un will honor his commitments on denuclearization.
Speaking to reporters before heading into a New Year's Party at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida,... President Trump mentioned his first summit with Kim Jong-un in Singapore back in June 2018,... and said he thinks Kim Jong-un is a (quote) "man of his word."

"He did sign a contract. He did sign an agreement talking about denuclearization. And that was signed. Number one sentence, denuclearization. That was done in Singapore. I think he's a man of his word. So, we're going to find out. But I think he's a man of his word."

President Trump's comments come after Kim Jong-un said Pyeongyang will introduce a "new strategic weapon" in the near future.
The President repeated his previous comments that he and the North Korean leader have a very good relationship,... and said that they are each representing their own country.
He also said he is aware of certain messages the regime is sending out about Christmas presents,... but remained hopeful, saying he hopes the Christmas present is a beautiful vase.

U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo also responded to the regime's mention of a "new strategic weapon" on Tuesday.
During an interview with Fox News, Pompeo said he hopes North Korean leader Kim Jong-un makes the "right decision" by choosing peace and prosperity, rather than conflict and war.
The top diplomat also told CBS News, that it would be very disappointing if Kim reneged on the promises made to President Trump,... but added that Washington continues to hope that the regime's leader will live up to his commitments.
