Description

Now, after some time it is really hard to watch some of my own videos, this is one of the TOP 10 :)
How fast situation can change dramatically.
183km Vilnius Cup grand prix task.
My radio started to work really bad and I can't communicate to other pilots and the silence in radio was a sign that probably everybody ended up with this task and I am alone and the last :)
I've started final glide as my program showed me that I am above the height for the final glide.
This video starts at the moment I am starting to realise that this flight configuration doesn't work ar expected.
The stress of being last, tiredness and a fair to outland mixed with lack of knowledge how to act in these conditions forced me to made these mistakes and outland somewhat 1 km from finish line and 2km from home airfield.
Few bad mistakes made during this video:
1st. too late realised that this way I won't come back anyway and I've relaxed too early fully relying on a computer.
2nd After realising or in a process of realising have made few bad mistakes - going too fast in a lift, ignoring few strong lifts for at least few circles caused by another fair - if You miss the lift during circling you made your situation even worse.
3rd. Too low for such manoeuvres, especially uncoordinated - too much leg/more ailerons on base turn. I've made mistake nobody should do - that could end up in a spin and crash. Despite uncoordinated turn I was lucky enough and my instincts to have enough speed saved me from that.
Lessons:
1st .react to lifts. Don't miss strong thermals and make some S or circles.
2nd Do not fly too fast during final glide
3rd. Do not slip (don't be nervous and do not over correct )
4rd Always better to land upwind than low altitude manoeuvres
P.S. After 15 minutes I have landed in a field few gliders went just above me, so I wasn't the last while I was flying... But haven't finished at all :)
