Victoria must 'get on top of community transmissions' through 'large-scale testing'
Description
Victorian Shadow Minister for Health Georgie Crozier says large-scale coronavirus testing needs to be implemented in Victoria to manage new cases caused by community transmissions.
On Friday global coronavirus infections surpassed one million and nations are ramping up their testing numbers in a bid to mitigate the spread of the disease.
In Australia, approximately 275,000 people have been tested in total but there are concerns some states are lagging behind in their testing numbers due to a failure to obtain coronavirus testing kits.
Ms Crozier said the Victorian government needs to “explain why we haven’t had the capacity to test over the last few weeks and why it was that they narrowed the criteria for testing?”
“We have had 41 new cases in Victoria today and 21 of those cases were health care workers,” she told sky News host Peta Credlin.
According to Ms Crozier, Victoria has a “community transmission issue” which is placing essential health care workers "at risk".
