What Is A Morsing? | Discover Instruments | Classic FM
Description
Morsing player Pirashanna Thevarajah introduces the South Indian classical percussion instrument.
Another variant of the worldwide jaw harp, the morsing underpins Indian classical music in the Carnatic tradition and Thevarajah demonstrates how to make a sound, how to change pitch, what rhythms can be used, and what kind of genres the morsing can be used in.
Pirashanna plays the morsing in Ravi Shankar’s opera, 'Sukyana', with London Philharmonic Orchestra at Royal Festival Hall on Wednesday 15 January.
