It is almost like a rite of passage for anime fans. All have heard of it, few have caught up but many have tried. I am of course referring to One Piece. Named for the fabled treasure left by the King of the Pirates, One Piece is one of the last great Shonen IPs. With over 950 episodes, One Piece has been going for 20 years and doesn’t show any signs of stopping. The series creator, Eiichiro Oda, has said One Piece could go on for another 20 years if he had his way. Luffy and the Straw Hat pirates have been through a lot, and they seem to keep topping each adventure they have. However, there is an actual end in site, One Piece. This fabled treasure is what the previous King of the Pirates, Gol D. Roger left behind. Anyone who claims it will be the next king of the pirates.

But what exactly is One Piece? Is it a thing? Or a concept? There have been many theories along the way. In the beginning fans just assumed it was a big ol depot of cash and treasure. It is an anime about pirates, booty was sure to come up eventually. However, One Piece’s story is not as straightforward as one would assume. We are here to talk about some of the different theories about the ending to One Piece. One such theory is that nothing lies at the end of the Grand Line, and that the real treasure was the friends made along the way. God I hope that is not the actual ending.
