What Next for Man United? Statman Dave looks at what Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Manchester United should do to continue their recent form and get the better of the lower teams in the table.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Man United picked up six points from Pep Guardiola’s Man City and Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham in the space of four days in the Premier League. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer handed Jose Mourinho his first loss as Tottenham Hotspurs’ manager when the Portuguese tactician made his return to Old Trafford with two goals coming from England international Marcus Rashford.

Manchester United visited the Etihad on Saturday to face Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City in the local Derby - again Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Man United came out on top in the big occasion with the man in hot form Marcus Rashford putting Man Utd ahead from the penalty spot converting his chance past Brazilian goalkeeper Ederson after 23 minutes and Frenchmen Anthony Martial followed with the second goal after six minutes, Wales International Daniel James worked the opportunity well on the left hand side with Anthony Martial converting his chance brilliantly off the bar. Jesse Lingard and Aaron Wan-Bissaka weren’t directly involved in any goals in the Manchester Derby but both had outstanding performances and were key to the 2-1 win at the Etihad.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will have to do a bit of role-identifying with Paul Pogba. The Frenchman has played just 450 minutes in the Premier League football this season and Man Utd have managed to forge a pretty good system in his absence - usually with Scott McTominay and Fred playing as the double pivot behind a pressing 10, two wide-forwards and a centre forward. A role has to be found for Pogba though. Last season he was Man Utd’s top scorer and assister as well as taking more shots, completed more dribbles and created more chances than any other Manchester United player. Solskjaer could revert to a 4-3-3 and have Pogba as the side’s playmaker with McTominay and Fred playing more balanced roles. Alternatively Solskjaer could deploy Pogba as the side’s number ten and look to have him play those defence-splitting passes into the forwards as well as making runs into the box himself.

Will Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Man United finish in the top four this season?
