White House Unveils 2019 Christmas Decorations

The White House unveiled its 2019 Christmas decorations on Monday, December 2.

First Lady Melania Trump announced the theme is “The Spirit of America” in a tweet late Sunday.

This is the third Christmas the Trump family has celebrated in the White House.

The East Room decorations include four star-spangled trees with cascading ribbons, each with gilded eagles perched atop them, according to a statement released by the White House.

The Green Room features classic Christmas tales and the Red Room is decorated with children’s games.

The Blue Room hosts the White House Christmas tree, standing over 6 meters tall. The surrounding décor pays homage to the distinctive floral emblem of every state and territory with handmade paper flowers.

The Grand Foyer and Cross Hall are decorated like a winter garden, with 22 evergreens, 14 golden magnolia topiaries, and 10 floral urns.

Finally, the White House pastry team designed a gingerbread house that features landmarks from across the country, such as the Golden Gate Bridge, the Space Needle, Mount Rushmore and the Statue of Liberty. The work used 200 pounds of gingerbread dough, 125 pounds of pastillage dough, 35 pounds of chocolate and 25 pounds of icing. (AP)
