last summer scuba diver Richard Fletcher, a BSAC Dive Leader, went missing from his group whilst on a shore dive in Plymouth. The RNLI and police dive team jumped into action to go and find Richard. He was found the next day dead near to where he started his dive.

According to reports Richard had taken a step back from diving after he was in a car crash and suffered a stroke. Once he felt up to it he got the ok from his doctor, bought new scuba diving equipment and joined the Plymouth Sound Divers Club and was in the process of easing himself back into the sport. The dive started just like any shore dive, buddy and buoyancy checks were carried out and the divers were told to use no more than a third of their gas before heading back.
