15 Scariest Places In The World
Humans are weird in a way. We find excitement in things that scare the bejeezus out of us. And if it’s a good fright you want, we’ve got you covered. Today we’ll be looking at 15 of the scariest places on earth.
If you suffer from pediophobia, i suggest skip number one. If you don’t have pediophobia, stay tuned to discover what probably is the scariest place on earth.

15. Beelitz-Heilstatten Hospital
This 60-building abandoned hospital has a colorful history that is definitely on par with its creepy appearance. Originally built for treatment of tuberculosis patients, this was also where a young Adolf Hitler recovered from a thigh injury here during World War I.
The hospital was afterwards used as a treatment facility German soldiers during World War II. After East Germany fell under Soviet control, the building became a Soviet military hospital until 1994, with Communist leader Erich Honecker being the most famous patient. The abandoned site has since been used as a set for some Hollywood movies, with its creepy ambience the perfect background for horror movies.

14. The Stanley Hotel
The Stanley Hotel's stately Georgian architecture and world-renowned whiskey bar have lured travelers to Estes Park since opening in 1909, but the hotel reached new levels of fame after inspiring Stephen King to create The Shining's fictional Overlook Hotel.
That eerie association already makes this place scary enough, but it’s not cinematic spooks that make this place one of the most haunted places on earth. Many other ghost sightings and some mysterious piano music have been connected to the hotel, and the Stanley Hotel leans into its reputation with nightly ghost tours and psychic consultations from the in-house Madame Vera.

13. The Capuchin Catacombs
If you think that Egypt has the monopoly on mummies, well, you’re wrong. That aside, you’d be forgiven to think that Egypt has the largest mummy collection in the world. Again, wrong.
The Capuchin Catacombs in Palermo, Italy, are home to the largest collection of mummies in the world. Originally built for the use of the monks of the monastery, it was eventually filled with the buried, forcing the monks to build an expansion. And when they exhumed some of the corpses, they found that they had been naturally mummified and magnificently preserved.
This was seen as an act of God, and soon thousands of people were requesting to be buried here. The catacombs effectively stopped accepting bodies in 1880. Today, people can come visit the catacombs, that is, if you’re comfortable with thousands of mummies staring at you with dead eyes while you walk by.

12. The Tower of London
Just it’s bloody history qualifies it for being one of the scariest places on earth. Built by William the Conqueror in 1066, this uncompromising fortress has had many functions. But it’s best known for its bloody history as a prison and execution site. It was here that Henry VIII famously executed two of his wives.
It's also where two young princes were imprisoned after the death of their father, King Edward IV; they disappeared shortly after in 1483, and their remains weren't found until 1647. Unsurprisingly, ghost stories of the Tower's victims—and ghost tours through Historic Royal Palaces—abound.

11. The Hill of Crosses
Located 7.5 miles north of the town of Siauliai, in northern Lithuania, lies the Hill of Crosses, definitely one of the creepiest places you will ever see. Crosses are thought to have first appeared on the site during this time as a way of expressing the desire for Lithuanian independence.
Crosses continued to be placed on the site throughout the medieval period by local Catholics. During a peasant uprising against Russian control of the area in 1831, the practice of placing crosses in remembrance of missing and dead rebels began. By 1895, it is recorded that there were 150 large crosses on the site, and this number grew to 400 by 1940.
It’s estimated that there are more than 100,000 crosses on the hill as of 2007. Thousands visit the site each year, with the most famous visit occurring in 1993 when Pope John Paul II came to dedicate the site.
