American Bandstand 1970 – TOP 10 – American Woman, The Guess Who
Description
Airdate: May 16, 1970
Whether you interpret this as an anti-Vietnam protest song like Randy Bachman or merely as an expression of preference for Canadian girls vs. “more dangerous” American girls like Burton Cummings, either way, it is one of the most popular songs of 1970. “American Woman” is the #1 song in the U.S. today for it’s 2nd of 3 weeks in a row and was the 3rd most popular song of the year. (#1 was “Bridge Over Troubled Water” and #2 was “(They Long To Be) Close To You”.)
The “dangerous” American women (and men) dancing today are: Theodosia Dayton and Famous Hooks (1:32), Teresa “Buggy” Escoto (1:34), Charlotte Regalado (1:36), Beverly Byess & Carl Ratcher (1:46), and Linda Gibson & Steven Rice (1:57) There is a lot of focus on Linda, Steven, Carl and Beverly as both couples were just selected to move on to the next round in the 1970 Dance Contest.
Kathy makes me want to chew Dentyne and go to the beach. I hear she has “the freshest mouth in town”
