Best Credit Cards for Students: My Top 3 Student Credit Cards
Description
What are the best credit cards for students? In this video, I break down by top three student credit cards.
Getting a credit card is supremely important. Some of the reasons you should get a credit card are:
1. To establish a credit history
2. To be able to pay for things online easily and securely
3. To earn free cash and travel on your normal purchases
A student credit card is a great first step in establishing a good credit history. Building good credit might not seem like a priority when you're still in school, but you'll need it down the road if want a car loan, mortgage, or even an apartment. Check out my credit score videos in the description to understand why credit is so important.

Not to mention, if you get a credit card, you can wind up saving yourself hundreds or even thousands of dollars. I have not paid for airfare or hotels in years because I have enough credit card points.
So, what are the best credit cards to get if you are a student? Let’s just right into it:
(1) Discover It Student Card
The Discover It Student Card was actually my very first credit card. It is relatively easy to qualify for and is still a card I hold and use regularly today.
There are many tings to love about this card.
First off, it has no annual fee. Can’t get better than that.
Second, you can monitor your FICO score with this card. As a student, you will want to watch your credit score increase and get a better sense of it over time.
Third, are the terrific credit card rewards. Let me break them down.
You get 5% back on select categories you spend on, up to $1,500 total spend. These categories are things I use every day, such as Amazon, restaurants, Target, etc. You will also get 1% back on everything else.
Plus, at the end of your first year, Discover with match all of your cash back with no limit. So if you earned $300, they will give you another $300!
There is also another small reward for good students. If you have a 3.0 GPA, Discover will give you $20 per academic year. Pretty sweet!
Also, for those who are paranoid about having a credit card and maybe losing it, the app allows you to freeze the credit card.
They actually have two versions of this card: (1) the Discover It Chrome for Students and (2) the Discover It Student Cash Back Card.
I recommend getting the Discover It Student Cash Back Card because those 5% categories are key spending areas for me as I am sure it will be the same for you.

(2) Chase Student Credit Card
Chase just launched the chase student credit card.
I love this card because it’s a great way to get into the Chase credit card ecosystem, which is the best credit card company in my opinion.
This card is unusual in that you cannot apply online. You must apply for the Chase Student Card in branch.
The main features of this card are the following:
$0 annual fee
1% back on every purchase
Eligible for a credit score increase after five on time payments in 10 months
Free FICO score
$50 sign up bonus
You must sign up for the Case student Card in person at a branch, but here is the information you will need: https://creditcards.chase.com/a1/freedom/student
(3) Bank of America Cash Rewards for Students
Bank of America is generally a bad company, but this card is worth a look. It has no annual fee and offers 3% back on a select category (e.g. dining, travel, home improvement stores, etc.), 2% back on wholesale clubs and grocery stores, and 1% back on everything else, subject to overall limits per quarter.

Be aware that simply being a college student may not be enough to get you a student card. If you cannot get approved for a student card, you will need to sign up for a secured card. Discover has a good secured card: https://www.discover.com/credit-cards/secured/
And please do NOT pay interest on your credit cards. Carrying a balance does not improve your credit score. Check out my other videos to see the worst credit score myths out there.
