More than 5,000 members of the military will soon be working the firegrounds after an unprecedented compulsory call-out of the Army Reserve.
Via the Governor-General, Scott Morrison issued the order for up to 3,000 reserves to join the 2,000 soldiers, sailors and airmen and women already working in burnt-out communities.
Extra water-bombers are being ordered, and the Navy's biggest ship is tonight sailing down the east coast to get people out of isolated towns and to get equipment in.
