Home Learning tips | Good to Know | FuseSchool
Description
Navigating these uncertain times is tricky enough, and now that homeschooling has become a reality for so many, this adds even more pressure on families.
To help alleviate some of that pressure, our teacher has compiled a list of handy tips to make homeschooling a breeze.
Tips for structuring the homeschool day:
1. Rethink learning! Traditional schooling is not always the most effective way to learn.
2. Say goodbye to an 8 hour school day. Aim for quality over quantity, and be realistic.
3. Learning can happen at any time of the day. Choose what works best for your family.
4. Involve children in the what, when and where of learning. This will increase motivation.
5. Have a basic routine and set expectations to allow for some consistency and structure, but that is flexible enough to adapt to day-to-day changes.
6. Include exercise and outside time, independent quiet time, stretching / movement breaks and chores as part of the routine.
7. READ! READ! READ! At least 20 minutes a day of reading time - graphic novels and magazines count too!
8. Set up a learning space. Try to designate a silent work area. This can double as a “staff” room.
9. Come up with school rules together as a family, especially around phone usage.
10. Have daily reflection time to do a family mental health check-in. Help children name and process what they are feeling by listening and validating them.
