As you can see from this below I am still very much learning how to develop and grow a YouTube channel.
That said I have definitely learnt (mainly through trial and error) a few things that are helping me to get better.
So here are my top 3 tips from what I have learnt after my first year of uploading content to YouTube.

About me and my channel.

I presently have 146 wonderful subscribers.I really do genuinely appreciate their support. I think this time last year I had about 20 subscribers?
Is this a good reflection of a year's work? I don't know.Where will I be this time next year? I don't know but I do intend to keep turning up.

About my Youtube channel (a possible dialogue between you and me)

"Do you have a question about being a parent or about family life that I can try an answer for you with a parody song?"

"Maybe but wouldn't it be easier and much more efficient for you to just google it and then email me an answer?"

"Possibly but that wouldn't scratch an creative itch that may be the start of my fairly sizable mid life crisis."

"Fair enough."

"We have 3 children (A girl and 2 boys) and I reckon that makes us fully qualified level 3 parents. "

"Level 3 parents? What does that mean?"

"It means nothing other than if you have 1 or 2 children there's a strong chance that you're getting a tiny bit more sleep than us.That you have maybe 10-15% less plastic in your house.That your car may look more like a car and less like something used to transport a small army through a war zone.When it comes to giving anyone advice on anything I'm very much coming at it from the school of..."Wow surely I'm not making this same mistake again? Oh no okay it looks like I totally am!"
I really think an sense of humour can round off the sharp edges of life which is why my parenting answers will usually come in the form of a fairly out of tune parody song."

"But surely all children are unique and therefore need a slightly different style of parenting?"

"Yes all children are unique and probably do need varying styles of parenting support but I think there are some parenting and life stresses and challenges that are universal.

"Such as?"
"Okay...
1) Not getting enough sleep?
2) Suddenly finding any activity that is not being at home cleaning,wiping,feeding someone etc as a bit of a treat?
3) Waking up in a cold sweat thinking about the school run?
4) Being word perfect on the Gruffalo?
5) Dragging yourself through the exhaustion and stress of parenting life and wondering how its possible for you to still feel happier now than when you could watch telly in bed all weekend and get drunk on a Tuesday night?"
"Okay, yeah that sounds pretty accurate and universal."

I set up this Youtube channel because writing parody songs and generally being a Wally really helps me with my intrusive thoughts,OCD anxiety stuff.If I can amuse some Mums and Dads and give a hopefully positive,useful,common sense perspective on a problem through a parody song,then hopefully everyone wins.Either that or you or your partner might feel relieved that your/their possible mid life crisis is contained to the house not the whole Internet.
