Description

If the polls are to be believed, often a big "if" these days, the Republic of Ireland could soon have a new prime minister and a new government by next week.

Leo Varadkar, a constant opponent of Brexit, as leader of our closest EU neighbour, says its way to soon to write his political obituary.

Pretty much ever since Irish independence in the 1920, politics there has been dominated by two parties. Fine Gael, whose leader Leo Varadkar is the current prime ministe, and Fianna Fail - led by Mee-hawl Martin Micheál Martin, have dominated.

But ahead of this weekend's election polls show them not just neck and neck with each other - but with Mary Lou McDonald's Sinn Fein too.
