Description

The Gauntlet is one of Spigen’s newer case designs. And it reminds me a lot of the Spigen ProGuard from the iPhone X era.

I would say that the Gauntlet is one of Spigen’s tougher cases because of the oversized corners as well as the addition of impact foam on the inside of the case.

It’s hard to find a comparable case to the Gauntlet in terms of design as most brands don’t offer a large TPU edge with a smaller PC back which makes this case unique.

Overall, the Spigen Gauntlet is a decent cause. See how much it is on Amazon:

At MREH, Monty and I base our reviews on actual usage. That usage forms the basis of any review. After we figure out the usage, then we layer on the Monty factor. Fluffy, brown-eyed, buttery smooth slo-motion, hair blowing in the wind Monty factor.

When it comes to design, the Gauntlet is wider than your average case because it’s got big corners. It looks stocky. And tough. The design of the corners is what reminds me of the old ProGuard for the iPhone X. In my opinion, the ProGuard and Reventon from that Era were some of the best cases Spigen’s ever made.

The case fits the iPhone relatively well though I wish the edges of the case were a tad bit more rigid. The case doesn’t slide around as easily like the LifeProof Next does but it’s still pretty slick which isn’t great.

WHAT ARE THE DIMENSIONS.

The Gauntlet is covered in a variety of textures so despite the TPU being a little slicker than average, the case won’t come flying out of your hand...much. The TPU on the Gauntlet feels eerily similar to the slick TPU on the Rugged Armor on the AirPods.

The TPU is going to hold up after nay drops and the raised back ensures that the drops will have a minimal effect on the clear PC back. I will note that the PC back on the Gauntlet doesn’t show any rainbowing, even when it’s pointed towards a computer monitor which is something I can’t say for other clear cases. It still has the annoying protective covering on the PC which is hard to take off. Other Spigen products come with a tab to help with the cover removal BUT not the premium priced Gauntlet...

iPhone access is fine in the Gauntlet. Buttons are easy to access, no issues with ports and the camera.

Now what’s the first thing that comes to mind when I say the word Gauntlet?

Well, the Spigen Guantlet isn’t as indomitable as Thanos. The edges of the case aren’t as rigid as I’d like them to be which becomes an issue with dust and debris and the camera area is raised which provides a bit more protection for the lenses. But the Gauntlet is all about it’s corners which means it’s all about drops.

And can it take a drop? Yes.

The only thing that doesn’t make sense to me is how expensive this case is. It’s priced as a premium case but it isn’t a premium case from my perspective. The average handling really brings this case down from my perspective but that’s just me.
