Nishikori reached his career-high singles ranking of No. 4 in March 2015, becoming the only male Japanese tennis player in history to be ranked inside the top 5. Nishikori has won 12 singles titles and was also runner-up at the 2014 US Open, where he became the first male player representing an Asian country to reach a Grand Slam singles final. In 2016, Nishikori defeated Rafael Nadal to win the bronze medal at the 2016 Summer Olympics, bringing Japan its first Olympic tennis medal in 96 years.

Juan Monaco, who is a close friend of Rafael Nadal, is a former Top 10 player who won nine singles titles and reached the semifinals of the 2010 Shanghai Masters and the 2012 Miami Masters. He announced his retirement from professional tennis on 15 May 2017.
